Major damp issue stopped in its tracks.
Bessacarr E495 in for a routine habitation check and service, thank goodness this Bessacarr came in when it did!
This is one of many reasons why Mtec Project recommend annual habitation checks be carried out on your motorhome. On the day of this habitation the first thing to be checked was the 'Damp Report'.
Readings of 20-90 % were flagged up with the damp meter, which immediately raises the question, 'why’?
The high reading was around the floor and windows, which gives us the initial suspicion that the window is leaking. A leaking window may ultimately have the thoughts of a replacement needed, but with the skill of a trained eye and further investigation this problem can be solved by simply cleaning.
As you can see in the photo, moss & mould have given a ‘bridging effect’ for water to get by the rubber seal, which then puddles on the top of the ledge, thus penetrating the habitation unit with water ingress. In this case, unchecked would have been devastating. All it takes is a few months of storage to wreak havoc on your investment.
The best way for you to maintain good seals for the roof lights and windows is....
Clean all roof lights and window aperture with warm soapy water.
Use vinyl & rubber care on all the seals (rubber window seals).
Use a soft damp cloth to clean window face.
One last suggestion I recommend before and after storage, is to thoroughly clean the inside and outside of your motorhome. If you have difficulty or lack of time Mtec Project can valet your motorhome annually saving you the monotonous job. Call us for a chat.
